If your home page can be reached in the following ways your website is at risk as google could see it as duplication of your home page.
http://mywebsite.com
http://mywebsite.com/index.html (or index.php or any other page/file name extension for the home page.
http://www.mywebsite.com
http://www.mywebsite.com/index.html (or index.php or any other page/file name extension for the home page.
In the above example some websites replicate their home page 4 times.
There are other issues that could cause even more replication of the home page.
This is very dangerous for a website.
