If your web pages don’t have a Description in your Meta Description Tag it will affect your web page rankings.

If you have a Meta Description in the web page and it is not related to the actual content on the web page your web page will find it difficult to rank in the search engines

The Meta Description Tag should be optimized and contain the main search phrase (s) you are targeting in the search engines.  This description also helps Google index your page much better when someone searches for your content.
